Authwave’s Python client connects your application to an Authwave provider, so visitors can sign in without us building authentication screens ourselves.

The client sends the browser to the provider, reads the encrypted response when it returns, and remembers the user in the application's server-side session. Authwave is open source and can be self-hosted. The default provider is login.authwave.com.

A small example

if auth.is_logged_in():
    print(auth.get_auth_user().email)
else:
    auth.login()

The Quick start guide shows the complete setup, including installation, client key and sessions.

What this library covers

  • Starting login and handling encrypted return responses.
  • Restoring authenticated users from server-side sessions.
  • Reading the user's ID and email address.
  • Running application code after a new authentication.
  • Provider URI builders, custom sessions and redirect handlers.
  • Flask, Django, FastAPI, WSGI and ASGI integrations.

Our application decides what users can access. Login identifies the visitor; permissions belong in the application.
